10 Most Memorable Poems this Year (for me)

Fri Nov 20, 2009, 2:06 PM
So what I did, I started thinking back through all I've read this year. Sometimes, a particular line would come to mind. Others, the words formed a picture of something in my head, and it was that picture that came to mind. And then there's Beaple's poems that use the words and the page to tell a story. And this is what I came up with, in order of their recall (and the first one listed is also the most recently read; still...it can't be said it didn't make an impact, because it did).

1.
Scarlettletters reminds us that God doesn't have to be an asshole.

2.
YouInventedMe collaborated with shackell to create this Lynch-like rhumba through someone else's relationship. Simply unforgettable.

3.
ChloraformBoy proclaims he's smoked seaweed with seahorses and that was it. Sold.

4.
YouInventedMe made Minneapolis as dreamy as Paris, or Tuscany. Who'dathunkit?

5.
My little scribbles say this: "that guy jumps off the cliff thing". Beaple's style needs a new definition. "interactive poetry"...eh. That's a very 90s term for something seriously groundbreaking.

6.
The next two sort of followed on the heels of the other, or the one made me think of the other, or something of the sort, but I think I read this very differently than everyone else; to me, this poem of Aadea's was about an old woman, reminiscing in a mirror.

7.
and goes hand-in-hand with AlecBell's and catcher01's 21 words to encapsulate aging.

8.
my scribbled note "the marriage-go-round". Poem by YouInventedMe.

9.
It took me forever to re-find this poem by Neonxaos because I remembered it as "ode to people as wave and particle".

10.
And this one should probably be first, because it comes to mind frequently when I spot something in my Inbox that's inspiring...but my brain pokes at it so much, it's kind of become a part of me; it almost got left out because one forgets the novelty of something that's become a part of speech. A few words, a wise observation from Pip.

There you have it: the ten I remember most from this year. Now. Have you a list? DON'T CHEAT by looking through your favorites. Just. Pull out a pen and a piece of paper, and let your head wander. Scribble little notes about what you remember until you hit 10, THEN wander back and try to find them...

"Is graffiti art or vandalism? That word has a lot of negative connotations and it alienates people, so no, I don't like to use the word 'art' at all. "
